We have just got back from an extended holiday in South America before spending 5 days in Dallas.
Prior to embarkation for our cruise we spent several days in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Visited wonderful art galleries and museums and of course the stadiums of Boca Juniors (where Maradona played his last game) and River Plate.
Also saw a performance at the magnificent Opera House as well as a night of Tango.
The streetscapes in Buenos Aires are fabulous reflecting a time when Argentina was the world's wealthiest country.
Before leaving we had a bbq on the pampas with mountains of beef, pork and chicken washed down with local Malbec.
Our cruise took us around Cape Horn visiting Uruguay, the Malvinas, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Panama. A lot of history there. Then on to the Cayman Islands via the Panama Canal finishing at Fort Lauderdale, Miami.
Highlights were Machu Picchu and a a bbq in Puntas Arenas, Chile at our tour guide's property/restaurant outside of town. Jo served tapas, spit roasted home grown lamb with multiple Pisco sours and local wine!
On the writing front I kept up an average of 1,000 to 2,000 words per day on my projects including a book of short stories I have started. This will include a prequel to Eagles Doves and Vultures.
I took the time to read some short stories by Daphne Du Maurier who I have not read before. Darker than expected with a restraint that built tension. Also read Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote who writes hypnotically. Plenty of pointers from both.
I noticed none of the Americans on the boat or who we met in Dallas discussed politics even though Trump's antics dominated the headlines.
Dallas is well worth a visit. Did the JFK tour and museum at the former Texas Book Depository. Also bbq, Tex Mex and a cattle drive at Fort Worth. Finally visiting the Dallas Cowboys Stadium and the George W Bush Presidential library.
A lot to admire about two former Presidents.
Quite a trip.
Hope to report soon on a publication date for Mirrors, Blinds, Darkness and Light.
